CURATE: Na New Na New

So the antiques fair turned out to be a huge bust.  Not only was it a mess because the rain came and soaked the giant field where it was, but the prices were high.  It was days like that when I wish I still had my Jeep and it's four wheel drive instead of my little company car.  The mud was errewhere and A and I ended up having to chuck our mud drenched boots in my trunk and I can't even bear to even think about beginning to clean them off.  I did manage to find a few things in spite of the dreary conditions....I present to you the latest in the CURATE lineup...

Vintage Glassware Set of 4

Art Deco Salt and Pepper Shakers

This already sold in a matter of hours but I had to show it to you anyway...it was this amazing blue glass vintage seltzer bottle.  If you are interested I might be able to get my hands on a few more in October...let me know.

Really neat tiger planter...but I think he would be cutest on your desk to hold pens etc.

Vintage Brass Letter Opener with Dancing Bull

Vintage English Tin Tray with Asian Theme

10 bonus cool points to anyone who gets the reference in the title of this post!

YouTube Friday: A Brand New Colony

Thanks so much to everyone for your comments on my bathroom makeover!  I am excited to have a few days off to actually be at home and enjoy it.  This weekend I will be going to the Liberty, NC Antiques Fair...hoping to pick up some new goodies for the shop!  I did add a few new things last night....be sure to check it out...especially the elephant teapot...which is to die for.

I could totally see him as not only a teapot but also a vase for flowers...maybe some pretty pinks and oranges and greens!

This weeks YouTube Friday is an old song but a new favorite of mine.  There isn't a video, boo, but there are pictures that change, yay!

Before and After: Two-Tone Bathroom Take 2

So, you know me, I begin to itch if I don't have some sort of new home improvement project in the works. Last night was no exception because I have had a bee in my bonnet for a while about the color of my bathroom. I mean, don't get me wrong, I really liked the old color, or two-tone color, but it had grown stale.  The pretty aqua blue combined with my pink walls in the living room began to appear juvenile to me and maybe a little too bright?  I had painted the bathroom a bright color because it is small and thats what you are supposed to do with small rooms right?  However, this quote from Celerie Kemble, or at least I think it was her, kept swirling around my brain:  "I know you are not supposed to paint small spaces a dark color, but every time I do it I have never regretted it."  Or something along those lines.  So I got kinda crazy on my Wednesday night before watching my DVRed episodes of "New Girl" and "Modern Family":

BEFORE

And AFTER

Yes I painted the top part of the walls AND the ceiling a color called "charcoal sketch."  And guess what?  I do not regret the dark color at all!  In fact I think that it actually makes the bathroom appear bigger.  To keep the dark feeling feminine I have a few touches of pink along with some gold toned accessories.

What do you think?  Would you go dark in a small space?  How do you feel about painting the ceiling?

CURATE: Graphic Vintage Fabric Pillows

A couple of weeks ago I was up in Virginia shopping for CURATE and I came across a yard of this great vintage fabric.  I wish that you could tell more from these pictures that it is a basket weave with both pink and red.  I decided to make a pair of 14" X 14" pillows out of some of the fabric.  They are graphic and really fun, and in my opinion a great bargain since they are already stuffed and you won't have to buy an insert for them in addition to the pillow cover.

Splurge Urge: Silk Crepe Cheetah Tunic

I LOVE this silk crepe cheetah tunic.  Check out her Etsy shop, it reminds me a lot of EmersonMade...only everything in her shop is actually IN stock.

I just got this scarf this weekend from Target...a nod to this look for less...

YouTube Friday: It Started To Rain

It just got pleasantly cool here in NC and even a little rainy.  I hope it holds off enough for me to enjoy the Carolina football game tomorrow and maybe make a couple of estate sales...

Today's YouTube Friday is one of my long time favorite songs.  It sort of has a fall vibe to me so I thought it would be a refreshing choice.

Also, here is the album version:

CURATE: Lion's Head Earrings Are In!

If you have been following the blog for a while you might have noticed I have a thing for lion's head detailing...like HERE and HERE.

This fall animal prints are going to be a huge trend to watch, and in my personal opinion some animal themed jewelry is going to show up as well.

I found some more lion's head goodness and knew that I needed to add them to the shop...share with the people and all that jazz...and I think that they are both BARGAINS!

These earrings are Kenneth Jay Lane for Avon and they are awesome.
I discovered the exact same pair in three other shops on Etsy, one charging $40, one charging $30, and the other charging $50.  I'm offering these up for....
$18.50

Also on the market are these Lion's Head Studs

So if the "door knocker" style isn't your thing these would be perfect for you!
$13.50

CURATE: Hobnail Chenille Bedspread

You may remember a while back when I found what I considered to be a steal when I got my vintage chenille bedspread....

Well...I found another one!  It is tagged that it is made by Bates, which is famous for their chenille bedspreads and it is in fantastic condition!  I am offering it up in the shop for a STEAL.  I like to pass my bargains along....

On The Cheap: Lamp Look for Less

Great use of the retro white pineapple lamp.  Really like the wall paper and green/white combo and the stack of books with the glass snail, great vignette.

But how can you get this look on the cheap?

$52.50

I think this lamp is perfect to copy the look above.  I got it at an estate sale so it is legit vintage.  It is a great deal too because this lamp is literally 2 1/2 feet tall.  Bang and style for your buck!

This one is available on Matters of Style Marketplace (which I really admire!) but their price is
$150

So for about $100 less...I know which one I would choose....

Weekender: Flags + Kites + Screens

I woke up Saturday morning and found the fire station across the street from my place with the American flag draped over my street.  On September 11th around noon they made the sirens on the fire truck wail as they looked at the flag lowered to half mast.  It was pretty emotional to watch.

I went to an estate sale this weekend as well, and because A had to wait for some guy to get some weight equipment he had sold on Craigslist we arrived a little late.  The house was totally picked over by the time we got there, and it STILL pains me that I missed my opportunity to buy this mod room divider.  I liked what was going on in this kitchen with the wallpaper/ room divider combo so I thought I would share.

I liked these kites I saw hanging in an antique warehouse.  Storing that in my design idea file.

I fell in love with this vintage dress I found.  I literally tried it on over my target slip dress in the store.  Alas it didn't quite fit, and I would have bought it for CURATE but it was too expensive.  Still deserves to be remembered.

Lewis decided that he wanted to be my co-pilot.

I ended the weekend dining al fresco at my parent's place.  Dad forgot to replace the outdoor light bulbs so we had to eat by candle light.

What did you do this weekend?

Splurge Urge: New Longchamp Donut Purse

So this is outrageously expensive, but I can't help but love it's cleverness.  The bag folds up into it's own donut shaped handles when you are not using it.  If you saw the purse that I carry around to work you would be horrified.  It's so ratty and terrible and I need to get a new one but I know that I am reallllly hard on my purses.  I don't like to change purses either so I keep the same one for a while until it eventually gives out.  However, that being said, if you ever need anything like a stain stick, box cutter, coupons, batteries, or tape I more likely than not can pull that out of my purse o' tricks.

What is your purse like?  Is it a rats nest like mine where you have to fumble around for an hour before finding what you are looking for, or do you keep it clean?

People Who Are Talking About It.

A big thanks to Leah over at Couture Arabesque (aka my Etsy mentor....let's call her the Etsy whisperer shall we?) for blogging about new items up in CURATE!  More importantly, let's check out some fabulousness that she has in her Etsy shop, ViviBell Vintage:

1980's Pierre Cardin Sparkle Sweater.

Black Suede Marquise Pumps

Ok, these are a huge fall staple.  Let's review:  Top -it's cowl neck, it's black, and it's got a little bit of swank going on with it's sparkles.  Shoes- Suede, gold bows, glam-tastic.  Instant fall/winter outfit.  Pair with dangly earrings and jeans.  Done.

Also, one of the most common questions that I get is "where do you get the stuff for your shop?"  The answer is something that Leah turned me onto a few months back and I have been addicted to ever since...Estate Sales (this website is aaaahhhmazing).  Yup, it can be kind of weird going through a house that hasn't changed a bit since the 70's where the owner has passed away, but sometimes it's just someone trying to downsize.  It's important to remember too that you are helping them out by taking away things for them.  Let me just tell you though, the things you find are PHENOMENAL! What do you think of estate sales?  Have you ever been to one?  Would you ever go to one?

Discuss.

On The Cheap: Rhino Love

I love rhinoceroses.  I wish that I could call them rhinocerii but apparently this is not correct.  I'm even considering being a rhino for Halloween this year (yes I realize having horns on my head all night would prove to be a logistical nightmare.  worth it.).

I mean, look at that.

And this.

In my opinion they are far under-appreciated as a species, and I know I'm a die hard elephant fan, but seriously, it's the rhino's turn.  Here are some examples of good use of the rhinoceros:

Rhinoceros desk.  I die.

Hanging out on some books.

Rhino and kitteh.

Rhino lamps.  Big thumbs up.

Rhino ring.  Must have.

Pink rhino way in the back there.

And last but not least, CURATE is offering up a rhino planter for your purchasing pleasure...and in Post-College Working Girl Style it is a deal....

$13.50

Caftan Newness

I have added some FABULOUS vintage caftans to the store this week.  I mean, really to die for, I will be really sad to let them go.  Do you caftan?  I imagine lounging around in one, cocktail in hand, music playing, and all other sorts of general glamour.

Hand Made.  Felt.  Stunning Color.

Fantastic Pattern.  Silk.  Amazing.

Some great caftan moments....

Liz Taylor's dressing room filled with her many caftans.

Lounging outdoors in a caftan.

You-know-who's in their caftans.

What do you think of caftans?  Would you lounge around in one?
