Faux Bamboo Weekend Finds

I went to the most amazing estate sale this weekend.  I have been stalking it for about 2 months and salivating over some bamboo furniture.  My friend C and I showed up at 5 in the morning, no joke, and we were the 5th in line.  We knew that we had a goal in mind and that was the bamboo furniture.  Some lady in front of us was apparently on a show on HGTV and when we were reaching for the furniture tags, she literally shoved me out of the way!  I ended up only getting two pieces out of the set, but I'm so in love with them!

The faux bamboo furniture didn't end there....

All are for sale in the booth, FINDS, this week!

Side Table Love

Added some really funky little mid-century modern tables to the shop FINDS the other day:

Umm I love them and really had to struggle to not put them in my house.

I think in a funky room like this they would be magic:

Also on my radar:

Finding some tables like these.  Fabulous.

Before and After: Great Silhouette Newly Stained

Sorry for the silence!  I went on a little vacation to Charleston, SC where I gained 2 lbs but enjoyed every. single. minute.  Grits, late night pizza, booze, I'm talking to you.  I have been paying for it dearly this week though.

I meant to share this with you last week, but it's better late than never.  Eliza Jane from the blog Over the Moon was kind enough to share a project she had tackled after being inspired by a few projects that had been completed on this blog.

She found (or rather her platonic flat mate found) this awesome vanity.

BEFORE:

She didn't like the lighter wood look, which is often how I feel so she transformed it with a little bit of stain.

AFTER:

Excellent job!!  My biggest motto is that if you like a piece of furniture but don't like the wood, buy it because the wood can always be painted or stained.  Ugly wood cannot hide a great silhouette!

Go tell Eliza what an awesome job she did and read about her adventures of being a Canadian in Australia.

If you ever complete any projects inspired by something you've seen here at Post-College Working Girl, send them my way, I would love to share!!

View From My Couch

This is what I see when I'm sitting on my favorite spot on my couch, no styling, just how it looks everyday.  Roses from my valentine, turquoise foos, gold bamboo mirror I'm selling, my office, and my sweet puppy who always manages to make it into every picture.

Not an ambitious post....it's been a looooong day.

Poetry and Elephants

Happy Valentines Day!  I am looking forward to making some heart shaped pizzas with my boyfran' tonight, nothing too fancy!  What about you, will it be a low key night or are you going all out?

In honor of the day of love I thought I would share two things that I love with you.

The first, my favorite poem by William Butler Yeats.  It is really a little bittersweet, the way most great love stories are:

When You Are Old

WHEN you are old and gray and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
    Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
    And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face among a crowd of stars.

The second is a new piece available in CURATE!  A wicker elephant table...I decided it was time to bring my elephant table goodness to the masses!

$150

A Dog Party!

Don't judge, but this weekend I threw my dog, Lewis, a birthday party.  He turned 5...and that's a pretty big deal.

my mom made a dog cake!

guests wore party hats

All received party favors!

Am I the only one who has every done this?  haha...maybe.

If you are interested in throwing a dog birthday party here is a really easy dog cake recipe:

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 egg
Mix flour and baking soda. Add remaining ingredients. Pour into greased 8" round cake pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Let cool. Puree cottage cheese in blender for icing. Decorate with more peanut butter and carrots.

DIY-mazing

I am rarely one to re-blog another blog post, but when I saw this one the other day on Little Green Notebook, I had to share.

This project is something that I have done/ still continue to do, but THIS has taken it one step further....

Cassie over at Hi Sugarplum created these amazing bookends by taking a plastic toy, spray painting it, and gluing it to a rock.  Seriously.  I have spray painted some elephants before, and other various items, but I hadn't thought to add the rock, which I think is a genius move.

Can we discuss how amazing this bookshelf is?  Things that I check off on my list of awesome:

1)  Great pattern
2) pictures hung on the front of a bookshelf
3)  Excellent use of plants in combo with fun items (sea urchins, bird, books, vases)
4)  There are elephants, duh.

I see little plastic animals all the time in the thrift stores and I think it would be cute to make bookends with mis-matched animals.

I feel so inspired by this, I would love to do this and maybe add the animal to a lucite base?

What do you think of this DIY?

Chinese Chippendale Fabulous-ness

Somewhere, someone is selling these 4 bad boys for $50.  I might be driving a total of 8-10 hours to go get them this weekend.  Keep your fingers crossed.  I know, to drive that long, I must have issues.

But would you look at them?  Perfect bamboo Chinese chippendale perfection.

This is what I imagine....

Oh it could be so good.  Those chairs and I would be SO happy together.

Let's just hope I'm not disappointed like I was this past weekend.

Yes I'm giving you the stink eye Salvation Army of Smithfield, NC.

V is for....

Valentine's Day!! ...don't lie, other V words crossed your mind and one of them was Vagina.

Now that it is February I feel that it is ok to indulge in a little bit of V-Day talk.  I LOVE this holiday, not because I have a boyfriend, I just personally love it.  Any holiday that centers around pink, and doilies, and flowers, and hearts.  I'm in.  I'm all in.  If I was single I would get all these things for myself, hell I might still get them all for myself...aaaaaannnnnddd cue Destiny's Child "Independent Women"....

This last photo is from my blog friend Tiffany's Blog, HOLIDAY, and I feel so inspired to go add little heart elbow patches to a sweater.  What about you, what are you most looking forward to this Valentine's Day?  Are you single or attached?
