Gross, gritty walls, dated fixtures, and a toilet that was built for little people (seriously the squat you had to do to sit on the thing was reminiscent of camping in the woods and pooping in a hole...that low, not pretty)
We purchased some new fixtures from Lowes, they have an amazing selection and I highly recommend them and their prices.
Oh and we added baller Schumacher wallpaper...that didn't hurt either.
We hung this new pagoda mirror literally 5 minutes before a party they threw on Sunday night. I love the way the shape of the mirror mimics the umbrellas in the wallpaper print.
We also took some vintage brass lanterns and turned them wired into sconces and I thought to myself, "yesssss I have done something good here" and I wish I had a million more pairs to put these sconces everywhere because I love them.
It has turned out to be everything that I want for a small powder room: plenty of visual interest so while I'm sitting there I have things to look at, it's kind of dark and cozy, and it's chinoiserie-d (see that verb I just created?) out of it's mind.
Now if only I could figure out how to get a photo of it that looks professional. It's so small, with such high ceilings, it's impossible to photograph unless you're a fly on the wall, even then still pretty hard.
